Bhutan Tour 07 Days
Day 01: Arrival
- Paro (L, D) Arrive in Bhutan
and transfer to Hotel in Paro. The flight
to Bhutan is spectacular with the great
Himalayan peak appearing on and after
the others on the life side.
Visit the Ta-Dzong built
in the 17th century, as watchtower to
defend Rinpung Dzong below. This Dzong
was later converted into the National
Museum in 1967, and is filled with antique
Tanka paintings, textiles, weapons and
amour. Drive to the Rinpung Dzong, built
in 17th century to defend the valley against
the Tibetan invaders. The Dzong is now
used as an administrative center and school
for monks. Overnight in Paro.
Day 02: Paro -
Thimphu (B, L, D) Visit Drukgel
Dzong, which was built by Shabdrung in
1647, to commemorate his history over
the Tibetans in 1644. Along the way see
Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples
built in the Himalayas by Tebetan King,
Songtsen Gampo.
Afternoon drive to Thimphu
(65 Kms./2.30 hours) visit to the Tashichho
Dzong, seat of the national government
and the Central Monastic body, includes
the summer residence. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 03: Thimphu
- Punakha (B, L, D) Drive to
Punakha via Duchula pass (altitude 3050
meters). From here on a clear day one
can see superb view of the highest peaks
in Bhutan, such as Gangkar Puensum, Table
Mountain, Jeje Khang, Masakhang and Gangchey
Ta.
After lunch drive on to Punakha which
the old capital of Bhutan and the present
winter capital for Central Monks. Visit
the Punakha Dzong (opened when the monks
are in Thimphu).
Day 04: Punakha
- Tongsa (B, L, D)Drive to Tongsa
around 6 hours through a forest of pine
and cedar. The road climbs to Pelela Pass,
traditionally considered the boundary
between west and east of Bhutan. Arrive
in Tongsa. View the impressive Tongsa
Dzong, built in 1648, the ancestral home
of the ruling dynasty. The Dzong is a
massive structure with many levels which
slope down the contours of a hill which
it perches and visit Ta Dzong, an ancient
watch-tower. Above the main Dzong, there
is an interesting display of Mongol armour.
Day 05: Tongsa
- Wangdiphodrang - Thimphu (B,
L, D) Drive to Thimphu via the valley
of Wangdiphodrang. Visit Wangdi Dzong.
After lunch drive to Thimphu.
Day 06: Thimphu
- Paro (B, L, D) Visit the National
Memorial Chorten built in honour of the
late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk and the
Dupthop Lokhang one of the few surviving
nunneries are prepares according to the
ancient practices.
After lunch drive to Paro.
Free at leisure in Paro.
Day 07: Paro -
Departure (B) After early breakfast,
drive to airport for departure flight
to your onward destination.
